Food and Nutrition is one of the biggest, most crucial sectors of any government around the world. The supply and demand for food products are vital in any market, much less in any healthy and flourishing community.
The dilemma of food and nutrition is regarded as one of the most vital elements of a successful community as it makes up most of an individual’s daily life. America understands this, which is why it’s created several governmental agencies that are tasked solely to encourage and combine food and nutrition-related concerns.
On top of this list is the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, otherwise known as NIFA. Launched in the year 2008, the agency was specifically designed to combine all federally-funded agricultural research and will be inferior to the Department of Agriculture.
The assignment of the NIFA is to “stimulate and finance the research and technological innovations that will improve American agriculture and make it more effective and environmentally sustainable whilst ensuring the financial viability of agriculture and production.”
And it intends to accomplish this by administering a ton of initiatives and programs such as the Food Security Learning Center Program which aims to create and maintain a nationwide, web-based clearinghouse of information about community food security issues and common community issues associated with the underlying causes of hunger and poverty, including the loss of farms and ranches, rural poverty, welfare dependence, appetite, and food access difficulties.
On the other hand, there also is the United States Food and Nutrition Service, otherwise called the FNS. The agency operates under the United Department of Agriculture is generally responsible for administering the nation’s national nutrition assistance programs and initiatives.
The agency has established several projects and grant applications to reach their primary agency mission, like the Innovative Food Defense Program (IFDP) which mainly attempts to generate food protection tools and resources that are readily duplicated and can most certainly complement, aid in the creation of, or enhance state, local, tribal and territorial food protection programs.
Meanwhile, there’s also the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), among the largest agencies under the United States Department of Health and Human Services.
The FDA is specially designed to protect and promote public health through the regulation and oversight of food safety, tobacco products, dietary supplements, prescription, and over-the-counter pharmaceutical drugs.
